Corticosteroid Injection

Corticosteroid injections or simply steroid injections are done for a variety of musculoskeletal disorders in order to reduce pain and inflammation to the targeted area. Corticosteroids work by stopping the inflammatory cascade and can be used for conditions like osteoarthritis, plantar fasciitis, capsulitis, bursitis, and gout. The injection is often mixed with a local anesthetic to allow for immediate comfort. The injection itself is relatively quick and you will be provided with post-op care instructions to follow. Now most often it will take a few days before pain relief is felt, however it can last for 1-3 months after. Due to the range of long-term side effects with continued/prolonged use, the injection can only be done for a max of 3 at the same site in a year. The most common side effect after the injection is post-injection flare, which causes the skin around to swell. The Family Care Foot Clinic staff and team will try and make any procedure as comfortable as possible.
