Coming Soon! Ganglion cyst is a tumor or swelling on top of a joint capsule or tendon sheath and often the inside of the sac reveals a thick, clear, gelatinous material. Mucoid cysts are benign ganglion cysts that occur on the toe or finger joints. Ganglion cysts are the most common soft tissue mass in the foot. They tend to be more common in females versus males, and occur on the top of the foot rather than the bottom. Common treatments may occur aspiration, which is the process of drawing out the fluid with a needle to reduce size and discomfort, followed by a corticosteroid injection to reduce occurrence. Cryosurgery may also be an option, as this uses a very cold temperature to kill off the cyst. Both treatments may provide temporary relief as ganglion cysts have a high recurrence rate, to which simple surgical removal of the intact cyst may be required. The Family Care Foot Clinic staff and team will try and make any procedure as comfortable as possible.
